Ciudad Vieja!
If you've been keeping up with the blog you know that we have moved for a third time, moving from an apartment in Palermo, MVD to the old historic Cuidad Vieja District/Barrio.
This part of the city was nearly abandoned for many years and only recently has undergone a major transformation into a major tourist area by day, and a major area for nightlife after the sun goes down. It is also marked by some really amazing architecture. Inside this barrio is the Mercado del Puerto, which is the parilla center (or rather a group of amazing restaurants serving up grilled meats and vegetables), which was talked about in one of my first posts.
Until 1829 the barrio was surrounded by a thick wall for protection/defense. The only part that still exists is now a gateway into the area in the Plaza de Indepenencia. Several photos, below include this stunning gateway.
We are spending the remainder of our trip living in this area and are having a great time having so many great cafe's, restaurants, and shops nearby.

Boulevard Sarandi, which for the most part is off limits to cars, obviously not this part, is filled with cafe's with outdoor patios as well as an endless row of street vendors. |

This is the view out of our kitchen and living room windows. We love seeing the Rio de la Plata all the time, and it is only 1 block away. We joke that it looks like eastern bloc Europe or Somalia out of our window. The building fronts are much nicer but you can tell the reconstruction of this area is still very much a work in progress |
